Italian Dressing Mix
1 Tbs garlic salt
1 Tbs onion powder
1 Tbs sugar
2 Tbs oregano
1 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp thyme
1 tsp basil
1 Tbs parsley
1/4 tsp celery salt
2 Tbs salt
Mix 2 Tbs of dry mix with 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup oil, 3 Tbs water and mix well.
Notes: I have looked around for recipes and most have these basic same ingredients but vary in proportions. So, take liberties and do what you want. I didn't have garlic salt, so I just used about 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder and no extra salt. When we mixed this up, I used 2 Tbs of mix like recommended, but would probably cut back to 1 1/2 Tbs in the future--the dressing was a bit salty for us (without the added salt from garlic salt and celery salt!), but the flavor was good. I would not, however, say it tasted just like Italian dressing you'd get from a bottle in the States! It was a lot leafier, if that makes sense. Main reason I really wanted to share this was because I plan to follow it with a beef recipe that calls for a packet of dry Italian dressing mix and I wanted to make sure you could make your own since that is a US item! Thanks to Brian and TB for being my taste testers!

I'm glad you have an RSS feed! I'm totally trying some of these....when I have more time and energy. ha.
ReplyDeleteApproximately how many ounces does this make or how many of the small envelopes would it replace? I'd measure it myself but I just used it all at once. (I may have just massively screwed up the new recipe I'm trying.)
ReplyDeleteOk. Its been awhile since I've made this, but the recipe above says 2 Tbs is what you would use when using the same proportions of wet ingredients as the salad dressing packets. SO I think the above recipe SHOULD be enough to make the equivalent of 4 packets of seasoning for dressing.
