Toy Story Birthday Party

I love birthdays. Love them. I love making my kids feel special. I love how excited they get planning the party. I love the look on their face as it all actually happens. Love it. Check the Birthday Parties tab for some great links and some planning ideas. Today I want to share what we did for a Toy Story party. This was for Isaac's 3rd birthday, so we totally embraced Toy Story 3 things. Because he was just turning 3 we tried to keep it simple!

Invitation

I found the image online and my husband just whipped up this simple invitation. I printed them and then glued to a matching blue construction paper background to frame it a bit.

The Cake

I decided to do cupcakes. I used this idea for Alien cupcakes. I made my own buttercream frosting though and just did all the detail with that rather than candies.
I also made some cupcakes with Sheriff badges made out of icing to represent the Woody side a bit, too!

Games

The Claw -- Use kitchen tongs to grab toys or other items out of a bowl or bucket. Since I live in China, I bought green ping pong balls and drew alien faces on them using a black Sharpie and a white-out pen! Make this an organized game for older kids or just fun for littles!

Bullseye Race -- Use stick horses (or make your own with a broom!) and have a relay race.

Toy Hunt -- I had any and all toys related to any of the Toy Story movies out in the living room. I let the kids collect them and see who got most. This included a LOT of little green army guys.

Hot Mr. Potato Head -- Play hot potato with your Mr. Potato Head. Since kids were little at our party, if they got caught holding him when the music stopped, they just took a piece of him off and stayed in the game. Then we passed him around and added the pieces back on! It got silly and perfectly fun for 2's and 3's! Download the You've Got a Friend song for this game and other times during the party! (If you live in China, search on Google Music for free download!)

Decorations
I got Toy Story party plates and napkins from Party City and my mom brought them. But you could also just use a bright color scheme for stuff. I only decorated with a couple Toy Story 3 movie posters that I found on TaoBao for 9 RMB each.

Food
I chose to do this between meals, so I only did cake. But PIZZA would be the best food to go with this theme if you're doing a meal time party!

Favors
I did little bags with a little wind-up robot, a key-ring size barrel of monkeys (taobao--OTC like site), Toy Story gummies (brought from the States), a glow-in-the-dark bracelet, and a Buzz flyer (from States).
