I've never eaten at a Carrabba's. So I've never had their bread and dipping spices in olive oil. So I can't really vouch for this being like Carrabba's or not. But I've had a lot of different things like this at home. Brian really likes his bread dipping sauce with just a little olive oil, balsamic and black pepper, but this is a nice variation. I've served it a couple times and our guests have really enjoyed it. From what I've read online, Carrabba's makes theirs with fresh herbs. I don't really have access to those often, so I came up with something using dried spices. Because of the lemon juice and fresh garlic, I'd keep the left over of it in the fridge. This batch made enough for 4 plates like the one pictured. Quite a bit. I have served this with the Macaroni Grill-like Peasant Bread and with my French Bread. Both were great. Hope you enjoy it like we have!
Carrabba's-like Bread Dipping Spice Mix
1 tsp parsley
1 tsp basil
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp olive oil
1/4 tsp rosemary
1/8-1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1 Tbs minced garlic cloves
dash of lemon juiceMix together all ingredients. Place on a plate and add olive oil.
Notes: I used 1 tsp of black peppercorns so they'd be freshly crushed. I also used coarse sea salt. So I blended all my mix in an attachment that came with my blender--something like a spice/coffee grinder. I even threw the cloves of garlic in whole, too. A food processor would work as well if it can handle such a small amount. Also, I used dried spices. If using fresh herbs a general rule is 1 tsp dried = 1 Tbs fresh.
