Simple Vanilla Ice Cream

Since I gave you a method for making ice cream, I thought I better give you an easy ice cream recipe to try out with it! This is what I do to make a simple vanilla ice cream. A lot of ice cream recipes call for MAJOR amounts of heavy cream. We personally don't like that much in ours, so I've adapted this recipe to have less than most. Keeps it a little lower in calories and cost, too, which is an added bonus! Also, many ice cream recipes first make a custard using eggs and such. I personally haven't had that much success with this, nor am I that wild about eating more or less uncooked eggs in things (bites of cookie dough aside!). So this recipe does not use that method. I probably make this recipe 4 out of 5 times when I make ice cream and then just vary the add-ins and such!

Simple Vanilla Ice Cream
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 cup sugar
1 Tbs vanilla extract

In a blender, combine all the ingredients and blend until sugar is dissolved in. Refrigerate until cold, and then freeze according to your ice cream maker directions or use this method!

Add-ins --pour into machine when ice cream has about 5 minutes left

  • Add a sleeve of chopped Oreos to make Cookies and Cream (one of our favorites!)
  • Add a couple handfuls of M&M's, chocolate chips, chopped Snickers or other candies!
Notes: I find that one can of evaporated milk has nearly 2 cups in it. So I usually put in half the can and save the rest for another batch of ice cream. Half the can is somewhere between 3/4 and 1 cup and I just make up the difference with more milk.

  1. Made this two days ago without an ice cream maker using your method. SOooo good. But the second day I actually threw it in the food processor for a good minute on the highest setting. It became like the perfect soft serve. Delish. Thanks.
