If you live in or near any larger sized city in China, you probably have a Metro. I'm growing in my love for Metro after 3+ years of living near one. Did you know (at least here) they sell boxes of German imported milk (AKA brand) for the same price as locally made milk? AND you can get it in Skim or Low-fat? Yep, we go buy it buy the case lately. We also get all our juice at Metro. With ever increasing prices around China, I've found if you buy the Fine Foods juice there by the case that its the cheapest option. I also LOVE the frozen section of the bakery--you can get pita breads, Fine Food brand tortillas, baguettes, and rolls for a very reasonable price for those nights you just don't have time to make your own. I've been stocking the tortillas in my freezer all summer for using when my husband travels. One of my favorite features of Metro in the summer months, though, is their fresh herbs! Our city doesn't really get enough sunlight for me to successfully grow herb plants from seed at home (or maybe I just lack a green thumb!). So I love that Metro has them for cheap! You can get good sized bags of them for about Y6 in our city. Ones I have seen regularly are basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, lemongrass, parsley, dill, mint, and a few others. I have several other items I usually buy at Metro but these are some of the highlights!

We buy the German milk too and love it!
ReplyDeleteMetro's not very convenient for me, but do you know they're also online? I just learned about this and haven't tried it out yet, but may be a good option! www.metro.cn
