I know its nearly the end of the summer but I just now got all these pictures processed from a pool party we did this summer, so I thought I'd share it as a theme idea for a birthday party! We did this for our oldest son who just turned 7. We actually did only a couple more "organized" games but I have a few other ideas I had that are fun. This party took very minimal planning since the pool WAS the activity! Perfect for this pregnant mama! If you have more ideas for organized games and activities, please share with the rest of us!

The Cake
Again, I didn't do anything exciting for a cake for this party. Micah really wanted a cookie cake this year. In fact, he told me everything he wanted on the cake. I did try to include the beach ball from the invitations and kept the same blue, red, yellow, and white color scheme going on the cake. I also used napkins and plates with that color scheme. There are lots of fun ideas online though.
Games and Activities
Of course just play time in the pool with friends is the best activity! No planning!
Water Frisbee/Ball Toss- Use a pool frisbee or ball and have a parent stand on the opposite side of the pool from kids. Toss the frisbee and let kids jump into the water and try to catch it.
Splash Bomb Batting Practice- We found this splash bomb bat and used it with the splash bomb balls we had. Kids got 3 swings each.
Dive Toy Search - Using dive sticks, rings or other toys that sink, throw a whole bunch of them into the water. Let kids go after them and see who gets the most. I had planned to use the kiddie pool to keep this easier but use as deep of water as kids can handle.
Nose Ball - Use a plastic ball that floats in water. Have kids use their noses to push the ball across a certain distance of the pool and see who wins.
Food
We had hot dogs at our party. You could also do burgers or pizza. And of course you could just keep it simple and do cake and ice cream!
Favor Ideas
I filled little plastic beach buckets with candy, and we also gave the kids a pool toy.

Invitation

I chose to take a VERY simple route for these invitations and not reinvent the wheel! I used this free printable beach ball. I printed the ball on photo paper to give it a little shine like a plastic ball. Then I printed the text of our invitation on cardstock, following the instructions in the download for size. It said, "Splish! Splash! It's a Birthday Bash!" Then gave the details of the date and time for the party. The Cake
