Substitution/Cooking Tip: Powdering Your Own Sugar

Did you know its REALLY easy to make your own powdered sugar? All you need is regular granulated sugar and a blender, food processor, or coffee/spice grinder. Put the sugar in and go! It will powder the sugar in no time!

This self-powdered sugar works great for things like hot cocoa mix or something that will melt. I also do this for something like the icing "glue" needed when making a gingerbread house. I can get powdered sugar here, but its much more expensive than regular sugar. You can totally use this in frosting and things too, but it will have a much grainier texture than real powdered sugar. I prefer to buy it for frostings.
