Simple Hot Cocoa Mix

So the other night I realized I was out of Swiss Miss hot chocolate mixes. Without buying these, I usually have quite a few around--like the kool-aid, I think people just sent them in packages or left them with me (Thanks Cierra and Becky!). But I had people coming over and I had planned to have lots of fun things out for adding to hot chocolate or coffee. So I had to throw together some hot cocoa mix of my own. This is what I did based on a couple ideas I saw on a few blogs. Its a pretty good homemade mix if you ask us!

Quick and Easy Hot Cocoa Mix
2 1/2 cups milk powder
2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup cocoa
2 tsp cornstarch
2 tsp vanilla powder (opt)
1 tsp salt
pinch or two of cayenne (opt--doesn't make it spicy or anything)

Whisk together all the ingredients. Store in airtight container. When mixing up to drink, add 3 Tbs or so to a mug of hot water. Adjust to taste.

Notes:  I powdered 2 cups regular sugar in my blender and used all of it, even though it was a little more than 2 cups once powdered.

Idea: This is super yummy with some peppermint syrup added in! Or makes an easy peppermint mocha when mixed with the syrup and some coffee!

  1. About how many cups do you think this makes?

  2. Mixed up? I'm not sure. It took us a long time to use it all up last winter as I recall but I make my kids a little "light." I'm about to mix some up now that weather is cooling a bit!

  3. okay Julie, I did a rough calculation--if you use about 3Tbs per mug of cocoa then this should get you around 30 servings of it….roughly. :)
