I'd been hearing about Chick-fil-a sauce for the past few years, but they did not have it the last time we were in the US (in 2009!). A time or two someone got a packet in a package and I'd tried a dip or two, but didn't really get the hype. Several months ago, one of our friends' kids brought me a packet back from the US--he said he thought I could "invent" it. Love it! On our most recent trip to the US, I got more than a few opportunities to have more than a dip of this sauce though. I'm still a little partial to just the regular honey mustard on my CFA chicken, but it IS pretty good. Its pretty much a mix of honey mustard and BBQ sauce. So I got to experimenting....I came up with a pretty good alternative. Its a little runnier than the packets at CFA, but the flavor is pretty good. A lot of it will depend on what ingredients you start with (the mayo, the bbq sauce, the honey, etc.). Anyway, fry yourself up some copycat nuggets and get to dipping! Enjoy!
Copycat Chick-fil-a Sauce
1/2 cup mayo
2 Tbs yellow mustard
2 Tbs honey
2-2 1/2 Tbs BBQ sauce
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp sugar
dash of liquid smoke (opt)
Whisk everything together. Serve. Refrigerate for up to 2-3 weeks.
Notes: I used homemade BBQ sauce that had some liquid smoke in it. The CFA packet specifically says hickory smoke flavoring in the ingredient list. I know people may not have that. Its usually on my list for the US or for people to bring me. I originally put about 8 tsp of BBQ sauce, but it was okay with just 2 Tbs too.
