Fancy Birthday Party

The girl party ideas are sorely neglected on here! Here's a fun one we did about 3 years ago when my daughter turned 5. This could be the base of a fun, fancy tea party or even a Fancy Nancy themed party.

Invitations
Our invitation was printed out then cut and glued to a fun paper on the back. The text said--

We cordially request your presence at a
fancy fĂȘte in honor of Zion!
(That’s a fancy way of saying, “Come to Zion’s 5th birthday party!”)
Put on a fancy dress and lots of accessories so we can all have tea, darling!

The Cake

I did some shiny foil lined cupcakes, topped with fun sprinkles. Then I had enough batter for a single layer cake to write on. I coated the edge of it with sprinkles. Simple!

Decorating
This most important part of a fancy party to me was making the event FEEL fancy. I don't often do a lot with my party table or decorations, but for this party I went all out!

My decorations all came from Ikea or Taobao (I did this party years ago, though, so most of the links I used then don't work now to share!).

Use fun tea towels or cloth or placemats on the table to fancy it up a bit. If you notice we used stemmed glasses (I don't have glass ones so I found plastic ones!). I did a colored plastic plate like a charger and a clear plastic plate on top. If I had China or fancy dishes I would have used those, but I don't out here! A simple touch was some small square mirrors from Ikea that we then had tea lights on top of. I had fancy dishes of party food on the table as well.

Activities
We just did a few simple things prior to eating our party food!

Make Jewelry - I found some cheap bead kits and we made some bracelets to accessorize a bit!

Foam Flower Craft -- We also did these little foam flower craft kits. They decorated and glued and had a magnet at the end I think.

I'm sure there are plenty of other quick, simple activity or game ideas. Dress up relays?

FOOD!
We did all kinds of little finger foods and appetizers! Olives, pickles and cheese are fun with toothpicks. We also did some chocolate covered strawberries. I had some candy in glasses on the table as well.

I thought these veggie cups made out of French bread loaves with a little bit of Ranch in them were a fun idea.

I made some chocolate coated cookie dough balls on sticks. Definitely fancy. You could also do chocolate dipped Oreos to keep it simpler.

**My boys were NOT thrilled with this party theme! The joys of a boy/girl household. So I had them put on button-up shirts, gave them a serving tray and told them they were waiters! They actually loved their role--especially eating cupcakes in the kitchen off the clock!

Favors

I found a few simple things like sunglasses and feather pens and feather boas that the girls took home. We covered recycled cans with pretty paper and ribbon.

This is one of my all-time favorite pictures! You could totally do a fancy HAT party here in China! I remember as a kid inviting girls over for a tea party and we all dressed up in our mom's old clothes to be fancy--hats, heels, etc..

What are your fancy party ideas?!
