I love how our meals and food favorites are being influenced by The Balkans since my sister lives there. My kids love cherry or strawberry Slatko more than jelly and beg me to make it when those fruits are in season. On my mom's most recent visit, she made a Bosnian cabbage slaw to go with one of our meals. She'd had it during her Sarajevo visits and had been making it some at home. It's about the most simple thing in the world to throw together. I like it so much more than a mayo-based slaw. We've recently been making the following version anytime we have BBQ sandwiches. Its a wonderful side dish or even as a topping on the sandwich. Enjoy!
2 Tbs chopped green onion, optional
--
3 Tbs vinegar, cider or white
1 Tbs water
1 Tbs olive oil
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp coarse ground black pepper
Prepare cabbage by chopping, slicing, or grating and pace in a bowl. Add onions if using. In a small bowl, mix the dressing ingredients together. Pour over the cabbage and mix well. Enjoy!
*This works with regular or purple cabbage. I usually use cider vinegar but white vinegar also works.
